The Petit Four is a space for all things culturally related to food, pleasurable drink and the good life. A ditty for the bon vivant in all of us.
More specifically, The Petit Four was originally created as a space to break away from the restrictions of living in a tiny Chicago apartment with a tiny, tiny budget.* Somehow this has led me to Brussels, Belgium, the only other place I’ve called home since I left Michigan for Wisconsin, China and finally Chicago before ending up here. Now it’s a space for all things Belgian, Midwestern and everything-in-between.

*When I started The Petit Four I chose the name for very basic reasons, but now I’m a little embarrassed by it since I live in a francophone country. Literally translated from French, it means “little oven.” I had a cramped Chicago kitchen and an even smaller food budget. Exactly how tiny was my budget? Precisely $172 a month, courtesy of food stamps by way of Americorps. Everything on this blog along with all the countless other meals were bought and purchased on $172/month to feed two people. Not a cent more. Happily, things have drastically changed for the better. Like Dinah Washington once said, what a difference a day makes.
